Individual and Couples Psychotherapy
The therapeutic process begins with identifying areas of focus and establishing goals for treatment. Once goals have been established, Elizabeth works with clients to meet their goal(s). Treatment is often viewed as a way to improve emotional well-being and relationship to self. Clients may experience one or more of the following treatment techniques while in therapy. Elizabeth is trained in the following treatment modalities:

  • Psychodynamic psychotherapy (insight-oriented), a long-term form of treatment, when appropriate, focuses on unconscious processes as they affect present behavior(s). Insight and self-reflection are major goals. It may be used in the treatment of depression, anxiety, panic and stress. Psychodynamic therapy, combined with interpersonal therapy, facilitates the development of healthy interpersonal relationships.
  • IFS Internal Family Systems, Elizabeth is a Level 1 certified IFS therapist. IFS is frequently used as an evidence-based psychotherapy, helping people heal by accessing and healing their protective and wounded inner parts.
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy treatment originally designed to alleviate stress associated with traumatic memories and any event that has a lasting negative affect oneself or psyche. This treatment is used to address adverse life experiences that contribute to problems in daily living.
  • Mindfulness Mindfulness practice supports the ability to live, in balance, in the here and now. It allows patients to experience, sit with, and take responsibility for emotions and feelings just as they are. It is important for clients to experience their emotions in a nonjudgmental way in a supportive environment.

“How will I know if therapy is working?
Many clients are curious to know when they will feel better and how treatment works. During the initial sessions, we will discuss your goals for treatment and begin working towards meeting them. Throughout the process we will mutually assess progress and review treatment goals.
